Checking Into Facebook Places.....

...AKA Informing Thieves
“We Aren’t Home”

Facebook recently released a report  stating that users most often check in at airports, ignoring repeated warnings about posting their travel plans online.

If your up-comming summer vacation involves traveling, be aware that "checking-in" on facebook is a huge security risk.  You’re announcing publicly to everyone that you’re going away for an extended amount of time.

If you can’t resist “check-in” to  facebook on the way to the Beach, at least consider this:
  • Be very aware of your privacy settings, not just on Facebook, but on other social media sites as well. Make sure no one you haven’t approved can see your information or posts.
  • Be selective about who you friend in the first place. Remember that Facebook has a setting where you can sort and manage friend lists and control each one’s access to certain information on your page.
But as a rule of thumb, simply wait until you return home to brag about your amazing vacation.
